About Ali Edwards

Ali Edwards first began scrapbooking in 2002 after searching for a way to preserve her son's baby photos and memorabilia. Trained as a graphic designer, she soon found the hobby to be an enjoyable creative outlet. In 2003, she was inducted into the Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame. Soon after, she became a contributing editor for the magazine.

Today, Ali's layouts are a favorite among Creating Keepsakes readers. Ali also teaches classes on scrapbooking and papercrafting at conventions across the United States.

A Designer's Eye for Scrapbooking

Ali's scrapbooking philosophy is actually quite simple. While she loves to play with the last products, she's committed to preserving her family's memories. "As a scrapbook page designer, one of my goals is to create layouts that are attractive and delightful," Ali writes. "When my family members look at my pages, I want them to be captivated by the photos, engaged by the story, and charmed by the details."

Topics discussed in A Designer's Eye for Scrapbooking include:

  • Communicating the stories behind your treasured photographs.
  • Using sketches to jump-start your creative process.
  • Using the principles of graphic design to create appealing scrapbook pages.
  • Mixing page accents from different companies to create a one-of-a-kind look.
  • Identifying the elements of your personal scrapbooking style.

While some of the layouts presented in A Designer's Eye for Scrapbooking might seem intimidating to the beginning scrapbooker, the majority of sample projects require only a basic understanding of the craft. And, to better accommodate readers of all levels, Ali offers plenty of suggestions on how you can adapt a sample project to suit your own needs.

Although the majority of the layouts in A Designer's Eye for Scrapbooking were done by Ali, the book also features work by Tina Barriscale, Mellette Berezoski, Joy Bohon, and Carrie Colbert. Devoted scrapbookers will recognize these women as regular contributors to Creating Keepsakes.
